"With my last Lab I waited until he had four lumps before I did anything. This time I started at six, before there was anything to find."

Denise K., Columbus, Ohio

Vet Reviewed

"Owners of predisposed breeds usually get told to wait and watch. Daily immune support is a reasonable thing to do in that window, as long as nobody promises it will shrink anything."

Dr. Emily Banner, DVM, reviewed the formula.

Ingredients

Organic turkey tail mushroom (Trametes versicolor), 1,000 mg per serving.

Lactobacillus acidophilus, a named probiotic strain.

Bacon flavor. Both amounts are printed on the jar.

Dosage

One scoop a day on his food. Start with half a scoop the first week.

One jar lasts about a month for a 70 to 80 lb dog, longer for smaller dogs.

Duke is 7, chocolate, and eats like he's starving. Reading that 1 in 4 Labs carries a gene for it was the first time I didn't feel like it was my fault. Stools firmed up by week three and his coat has that shine back.

Four stars because the lump she already had hasn't changed, and I want to say that plainly. They tell you that up front. Her loose stools have stopped and she likes the bacon flavor. At least now I'm doing something while I watch.

I put everything in the snake oil bucket. What got me was the numbers come from an actual veterinary college and the label says how many milligrams. My Lab is 8. Two months in he's moving more and scratching less. Still a skeptic. But I ordered another jar.

Our yellow Lab turned six in March. He doesn't have any lumps yet, which is exactly why I started. My mom's Lab was covered in them by ten. He eats it mixed in his kibble and doesn't notice. Stomach more regular around week two.

First few days his stool was soft. They said stay at the half scoop another week and it sorted itself out. That's why it's not five. He's 9 with two lumps the vet already looked at, and this isn't for those. He's bringing me the ball again.

This is my third Lab. The first two got lipomas in middle age and I tried fish oil and turmeric with no idea if it did anything. This time I wanted the dose printed on the jar. I stopped checking her with both hands every night. I pet my dog again.

Why Ottertail Works

1

Helps slow lumps where they start

Turkey tail carries beta-glucans, the part a dog's immune system recognizes. That's what helps prevent new fatty lumps and slow down the ones already growing.

2

A probiotic that helps it absorb

L. acidophilus backs up his digestion and helps his body take in more of every scoop.

3

Dosed for the breed that needs it

Older and bigger dogs get the most lumps. The scoop is dosed by weight.

4

He acts more like himself

More pull on the leash, more interest in the ball. Most owners notice it around the second month.

One scoop on his food. That's the routine.

Mix it into whatever he already eats: kibble, wet, raw, it doesn't matter. Bacon flavor, so most dogs don't notice they're being handled.

Why Older Dogs Keep Growing Lumps

Between 9 and 12 years old, a dog is 17.5x more likely to get lipomas than at 3 to 6. Big breeds like Labs carry even more risk.

His immune system spots and clears tissue his body doesn't need. It slows down with age, and that gives lumps room to grow.

Turkey tail has beta-glucans, the compounds that immune system recognizes. One scoop a day helps prevent new lumps and slow down the ones already there.

Two ingredients. Both printed with the dose.

Most turkey tail supplements for dogs list nine mushrooms and then put them all inside one "proprietary blend" with a single number. You never learn how much of anything your dog is getting.

Organic Turkey Tail Mushroom

Trametes versicolor. Turkey tail carries beta glucans, complex sugars the immune system recognizes. They're what the research is about, and they're the reason this mushroom is in the jar.

Probiotics · Lactobacillus acidophilus

A named strain, for absorption and for the stomach of a large breed that doesn't always have an easy one.

This isn't an internet mushroom.

In Japan, a turkey tail extract called PSK has been a prescription medicine since 1977. It has been through 59 clinical trials and at its peak accounted for 25% to 38% of that country's oncology prescriptions.

Here it gets sold as a supplement with a stock photo on the label. Same mushroom, held to a much lower standard of proof.
